You can count on me this Christmas.

by Happiness Iyanya

This year I feel like we were all,to some extent, forced to pause for several minutes to just take deeper breaths and pay attention to our surroundings.

What did you see?

I personally came to the shocking realization that my niece’s hand did not fit in my palm anymore because she’s seven now and I had trained my brain to believe that she was around three.

Many other things (and people) turned out to not be what I had convinced myself they were.

The truth can be annoying, growth is painful and change is uncomfortable but the human experience will not be interesting without those three.

In Kenya they say ‘ina uma but ita bidi uzoeye’

I also saw these two boys living their lives and I caught myself thanking God for my friends,  they really do keep me alive.

Ps: ‘you can count on me this Christmas’ means

  1. I will sit with you in the dark

  2. I may not understand but I’m here

  3. I clap when you win.
